Educational Therapy

What is educational therapy?

Is it the right option for your family?

What is Educational Therapy?

Educational therapy utilizes academic interventions to target underlying learning challenges. There are so many potential barriers to learning for students--stressors outside of school, anxiety at school, learning disabilities, executive functioning challenges, and behavior are only some possibilities. An educational therapist helps a student and their family identify these barriers and teaches them strategies to break through such barriers.

At UnmaskEd we work with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities using a play- and interest-based model to encourage academic growth. For more information about educational therapy services provided by UnmaskEd, click here.

Is educational therapy right for my family?

Educational therapy might be right for your family if your child:

  • has a learning disability

  • is struggling to make progress towards their IEP goals

  • needs help identifying strategies for self advocacy, ac

  • experience anxiety and distress about going to school, which may result in school avoidance

  • has seemingly random gaps in their academic skills (ex. reading at an advanced level but unable/willing to write; solve for math equations using mental math but is unable to perform multistep problems, etc.)

Educational therapy might not be right for your family if your child:

  • is falling behind in school after being out sick for a week

  • is making adequate progress in school

  • needs help with homework
